The Art Vault is an international standard arts facility housing three galleries, etching and lithography printmaking workrooms, 10 artist studios and two artist in residence apartments. It provides a unique environment for the Mildura community by bringing together local, indigenous, national and international artists in a venue that encourages artwork production, workshops, special events and exhibitions. Situated in regional north, west Victoria, The Art Vault is one of Australia's leading privately operated arts facilities, which opened in 2008. A great emphasis is placed on education about the visual arts through tours, talks, workshops and information so that they can develop a community more informed and engaged with the arts. The Art Vault is much more than a retail shop or gallery, they offer their customers a unique experience via an ever changing exhibition schedule. Visitors are encouraged to meet the artists and view artwork being produced, explore the old bank vaults which store artworks on vertical racks and peruse original prints in their folders. Meeting and talking to the artists enriches the experience of the visit, adding value and meaning to any art that is purchased. The Art Vault provides a learning experience where people can gain knowledge and discover a whole new and interesting world of visual communication which is the most used language in our society but the least taught and understood.
